April Fools Tricks
Easter is swell and all, but the upcoming holiday I’m really looking forward to is April Fools! This holiday gives you an official excuse to be a pain-in-the-rear-end.
As media players get smaller and lighter, one can’t help but think that they are actually designed to be lost easier. And who wouldn’t squash their Good Samaritan reflex if one of these beauties was found on a library shelf or in a coffee shop? This fake iPod project is dedicated to those who’ve lost contact with their beloved player… the flavor of revenge wrapped up with a little laughter and I got’cha spirit.
The inspiration for this particular trick came from a protective sleeve I bought for my iPod Mini. Part of the packaging was a paper ipod fit with in the protective plastic, so that you could better visualize its intended use. What it really yielded was a cute paper Mini. Inspired, I slapped my iPod down on my scanner bed and captured every side of it. I then played with the wording and screen text using your basic graphics program, slipping in fun little messages onto the player’s surface.

Cut out and follow the fold instructions to form your own 3D paper player. Glue or tape closed with clear packing tape. To make these more durable to the touch, use a single sheet of laminating plastic (looks like clear contact paper) on the color printed side. Another nice touch is to treat these like a messge in a bottle with the inclusion of some sort of contact info (your website url, etc).
Have fun leaving these around, and try not to laugh too loud when you’ve snared a sucker.
