Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to spend the night than indulging in fondue-for-two by candlelight. All you will need to make your very own set is an old tin, some wire, and a tea light candle.
You will need:
An old tin
Wire (26 gauge or thicker)
Wire cutters
Pliers
A tea light candle
Directions:
1. First of all you will need a small tin, like an Altoid’s box. |
2. Remove the lid by opening up the hinges using pliers. |
3. Bend a piece of wire to the shape of the tin. Make sure it fits snugly around the tin. |
4. Reinforce the wire shape by wrapping another length of wire around the first. |
5. Cut four strips of wire, each about 10″ long. These will be the legs. |
6. Fold each strip in half, leave a small loop at the bottom (to make a foot), then twist the wire together until just half the length of the wire is twisted. |
7. Attach the legs at each of the four corners of the wire rectangle. Twist the remaining wire tails of the legs around the rectangle frame. |
8. Reinforce the whole frame by wrapping more wire around it. Continue until the stand feels nice and sturdy. |
9. Place your tin in the wire stand. Make sure it’s secure. |
10. Pick a selection of fondue treats. I recommend strawberries, banana slices, shortbread cookies, and marshmallows. |
11. Light a tea light candle and place it under the frame, beneath the center of the tin. |
12. Place a few pieces of chocolate in the tin to melt. This will happen very quickly, so keep your eye on it. |
13. Stick skewers through your goodies (you can make your own with the remaining wire), dip in, and enjoy. |
